Bad Lieutenant

Bad Lieutenant stars Nicholas Cage as a New Orleans cop whose heroics in the line of duty have left him with a bad back and a personality to match. This film was a surprisingly fresh take on the good-cop-gone-bad genre coming out of Hollywood and definitely worth a watch.

This film is many things, but simple and ordinary is not one of them. At times it can descend into the downright zaney, but the overall tone of the film is never less than perfect. This is one of those unusual films that comes along every now and again and reminds us that there is still an original bone in Hollywood (even if it is a remake of an earlier version).

I don’t want to give away any elements of the plot as they all seem so disparate yet merge together so well, but this is one of those rare instances where the writers have managed to craft something special.

Compared to the recent litany of bad films I’ve seen, Bad Lieutenant rises above them all. I recommend you see it before it’s short run is over.
