The A Team

Let me start by being honest; I never watched the original A-Team. Heck, I don’t like any TV shows from that period of American TV history period. So not only did I go and see The A Team with decidedly low expectations (after seeing CGI explosion after CGI explosion in the trailers), but I went in with only the barest idea of what the gang of four got up to. And the film was much better because of it.

The A Team is your standard run-of-the-mill Summer blockbuster; it’s got everything, guns, explosions and betrayal. While the story tries to appear clever it’s more an excuse for the quartet to traipse across the globe leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Surprisingly the hideous CGI-ridden trailers gave way to completely unbelievable yet immensely satisfying set pieces (shooting a drone down in a freefalling tank!), this is a film that makes no qualms about passing the point of reality and instead turns into a fun ride to watch.

And seriously that’s all The A Team is, a fun film to watch and completely forgettable afterwards. One to watch for a laugh, better than one could expect but at the end of the day nothing particularly special. Unfortunately I can’t say how it compares to the original TV series, I’m sure there will be those who can never forgive Hollywood for “refreshing” their favourite series but as far as I’m concerned this is fresh material up for grabs.

My rating: 7/10
