MyTweetCount

Last week I was annoyed; I had passed 20,000 tweets on Twitter (@Dachande663) and didn’t realise until I was almost a hundred over. So, with a bit of prompting from @Si, I set about to make a really simple, highly focused app to remind you when you’re about to pass Twitter milestones. Introducing MyTweetCount

First of all, this isn’t the best time for me to be starting new apps. I have just over a month left to finish my University dissertation and already have enough side projects to occupy an entire development house. Nonetheless I set about trying to make a very simple little app with one core goal: let you make an alert and have the app send you reminder. Nothing more, that was the hard part.

It also marked a move back to CodeIgniter and while there are some things that still annoy me (helpers load into the global namespace for one), it has proven to be more reliable than the recent changes to Kohana (my prior framework of choice). Throw in Jaisen Mathai’s Twitter Async library and I had the core of the system up and running in a few hours last Sunday afternoon. Interface and job handling followed soon after and last Thursday I opened up the site for limited beta. With nothing mega breaking, I opened it up for all earlier on today.

If MyTweetCount gets popular enough I will migrate it to a domain name of it’s own, but for now it’s living life as a little sub-project with a solid userbase. So please, sign up, set some alerts and forget all about the app. One day it’ll tweet you back :)
