Idea Storm

The good thing about a weekend away is that it gives you a chance to think about stuff that’s been on the back burner for a while. Ideas for projects and apps and also making plans to get stuff done. Here are some ideas I need to get around to then, at some point.

Admin/CMS for Laravel
WordPress might be a ballache, but it makes managing content pretty simple with a nice UI (unlike Drupal *shudder*). What I really want is a way to take the common functionality I use in WP and apply it to other projects. A set of components, a base admin with user levels (distinct from any front-end users mind you) which can then include basic CRUD scaffolding, export controls, dashboards etc. Maybe one to think about when Laravel settles down a bit.

Bulk Buffer for Business
Ergh, I need to get this done. I have so much of the code done and the waiting list just keeps on growing.

Spotify S3
I hate the idea of a rental service. Netflix, Kindle, Spotify. They terrify me. I own my books. I can take them where I want. Read them where I want. It doesn’t matter if twenty years from now a company goes bust or their ToS change. I want a simple way to drop a song on an app and have it appear on all my others. FLAC and MP3, doesn’t matter. It’ll follow me and be something I own. If S3 go, switch to another provider.

Scylla
This is an oddball side project I’ve had for a long, long time. Just a way to track what happens. Like Twitter but with meta data. It’s the datageek inside me rearing it’s head. It even has a little UI, but not much else.
