Ready Player One

I read a lot. Some of those books are amazing, they challenge you, make you think and doubt and question. But just like all other mediums, most are akin to popcorn-accompaniments. And that’s the best thing I can say about Ready Player One.

It’s a fun book. It’s short and light and explains anything that needs explaining. It might not be for my era, but it paints a colourful picture nonetheless and definitely excels in its (I’m assuming) goal of reliving the glory days of the 80s.

In terms of plot and pace, it’s perfect. There’s always another cliffhanger, but usually after a little pause to let you catch your breath. And while some of the characters verge on the edge of Mary Sues, not to mention some results been foregone conclusions, it keeps you reading.

Definitely give it a read. Or wait until Spielberg has made his film of it.
